Economy: Predominantly an agrarian economy. The important industries of the state are bamboo, agriculture and allied industries, horticulture, sericulture, minerals & mining, handloom & handicrafts and tourism.

Important industries:  A New Industrial Policy of Mizoram was announced in the year 2000. The Policy identified thrust areas like Electronics and Information Technology, Bamboo and Timber based products, Food and Fruit Processing, Textiles, Handloom and Handicrafts, etc.

Scientific cultivation of tea has also been taken up. Establishment of Apparel Training and Design Centre, Gems cutting and polishing are in the pipeline to encourage setting up of Export Oriented Units (EOUs).

Important Resources: The state has a small repository of minerals. Majority of the mines in Mizoram dig up the hard tertiary rocks that are used as building materials and road construction.  With sub-tropical forests covering the three fourth of the state, the state is home to a large variety of medical herbs and plants, besides thick bamboo forests.
